A complaint was reportedly made to the Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, a man who Sri Lanka\u2019s supreme court found guilty of torture, regarding the song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/icppg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024-04-17-Sooriya-Mangala.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icppg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024-04-17-Sooriya-Mangala.jpg 480w, https:\/\/icppg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024-04-17-Sooriya-Mangala-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat is not normal is arresting people for such acts in the guise of maintaining morality, which is not the business of the State,\u201d said lawyer Thishya Weragoda. \u201cUnless, of course, we are either Saudi Arabia or Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI do not see any criminal offence in this situation. The lyrics created were for obviously satirical and humorous purposes. It had no intention to annoy others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri Lankan authorities have frequently cracked down on those that it claimed has \u201cinsulted\u201d Buddhism, including the more recent&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/listen\/programs\/sundayextra\/sri-lankan-comedian-arrested\/102487838\" target=\"_blank\"><u>arrest of comedian Nathasha Edirisooriya<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;last year. Meanwhile in the North-East arrests and intimidation of individuals, particularly Tamils is a common occurrence, including for posts on social media. Recently an activist was summoned to the Terrorism Investigation Division over a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tamilguardian.com\/content\/we-are-hopeless-situation-detained-former-ltte-cadres-son-calls-his-release\">&nbsp;Facebook post.<\/a>&nbsp;He continues to be in jailed under charges that have not been publicly revealed.&nbsp;Writers have been questioned and even those who posted satirical videos, such as two Tamil youth who mocked the rampant bribery of Sri Lankan police, have faced arrest.
